According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the adversary makes further attempts to hold the temporarily captured territories and deter operations of the Ukrainian Defence Forces on certain axes. Yet, the enemy conducts offensive operations on Bakhmut and Avdiivka axes.
Over the past day, the enemy launched 10x missile and 58x air strikes, and launched up to 60x MLRS attacks.
Areas of more than 35x Ukrainian settlements were hit by enemy attacks. In particular, Kyiv and other settlements in Kyiv Odesa, and Mykolaiv oblasts; Bilohorivka, Terny, Krasnohorivka and Maryinka (Donetsk oblast); Nova Kam’yanka and Biloghirka (Kherson oblast). Russian invaders continue to attack the critical infrastructure and civilian facilities of our State with cruise, airborne and anti-aircraft guided missiles, and Iranian-made Shahed-136 attack drones. In particular, 43x Shahed-136 drones were involved in attacks on Ukraine, 38x of them were successfully downed by Ukrainian defenders.
As of October 17, 2022, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 423 children have died and more than 811 children have been injured. Due to the active hostilities in affected regions, there is no possibility to inspect the areas of shelling and destruction.
In Ukraine, due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation during the past day, October 17, 14 people were killed and 15 more were injured. This was announced by the deputy head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko, referring to the data of the regional military administrations.
The enemy fired on other axes:
Siverschyna axis: russian artillery shelled the vicinities Senkivka (Chernihiv oblast); and Seredn’ya-Buda and Dmytrivka (Sumy oblast);
Slobozhanschyna axis: the enemy used tanks, mortars, tube and rocket artillery to engage Khatne, Staritsa, and Strilecha settlements;
Kup’yans’k axis: the areas around Berestove, Hryanikyvka, Dvorichna, Kotlyarivka, Serebryanka, and Stelmakhivka were subject to mortar, tube and rocket artillery attacks;
Lymansky axis: settlements of Bilohorivka, Hrekivka, Zarichne, Nadiya, Novoehorivka, and Terny came under artillery fire and were attacked by russian attack drones.
Bakhmut and Avdiivka axes: the enemy employed tanks, mortars, tube and rocket artillery all along the contact line.
Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhya axes: the enemy shelled more than 15x settlements, including Biloghirya, Bohoyavlenka, Vuhledar, Malynivka, Orihiv, and Shevchenko.
Pivdennyi Buh axis: the occupiers attacked military and civilian infrastructure. Areas of more than 20x settlements along the contact line were affected. Russian invaders conducted more than 30x UAV flights to conduct aerial reconnaissance.
Russian occupation troops actions:
Violating all norms of International Humanitarian Law, laws and principles of war, russian occupiers continue to reinforce their defence lines trough robbing local population. Thus, the invaders remove construction materials and metal structures from local civilian households in the settlement of Blahodatne (Kherson oblast) to reinforce their fortifications.
Ukrainian troops actions:
Ukrainian Air Force conducted 22x air strikes during the past day.
18x concentrations of weapons and military equipment, 1x strong point, and 3x anti-aircraft missile systems are confirmed hits. Ukrainian air defence units shot down 3x cruise missiles.
Ukrainian missile and artillery troops engaged 1x command post, 1x concentration of enemy troops, weapons and military equipment, 2x air defence and artillery facilities, 1x ammunition depot, and several other military targets.
Analysis of events in the regions of Ukraine:
Kyiv and Region
As a result of the kamikaze drone attack in the capital on October 17, four people were killed. Among the dead was a young married couple who were expecting a child (the woman was six months pregnant). Three victims were hospitalized. Two of them are rescuers who extinguished the fire in the residential building hit by the drone and cleared the debris there.
Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko said that the damaged house in the Shevchenkivskyi district, which was hit by an Iranian kamikaze drone Shahed 136 on October 17, was destroyed and cannot be restored. 16 families lived in the house.
As a result of the Russian attack, a 120-year-old building, which is part of Kyiv’s historical buildings, was damaged. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
Donetsk and Luhansk Region
On October 17, the Russians killed 4 civilians of Donetsk region: in Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Zarichn and Avdiivka. This was announced by the head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko.
In addition, 7 more civilians killed by the Russians during the occupation were found in Lyman. Another 10 people were injured yesterday, including children.
During the day, the police registered 36 violations of the laws and customs of war by the occupying forces. The enemy shelled 18 settlements in the Donetsk region.
The Russians fought with “Uragan” and “Grad” MLRSs, tube artillery, tanks, and mortars. 10 civilian objects were destroyed and damaged – 7 residential buildings and commercial buildings.
As of October 17, bodies of 35 military personnel and 152 civilians were exhumed in Lyman. The police said that this number is constantly increasing. So far, 43 burials have been discovered in the de-occupied city. In particular, the dead were injured mostly as a result of shelling and explosions, but there are also bodies with signs of violent death.
Kharkiv and Region
The occupiers shelled the settlements of the Kharkiv region along the contact line and the border with Russia. Over the past day, a 45-year-old resident of the village of Lukiantsi died as a result of shelling. This was announced by the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration Oleh Synegubov.
A 47-year-old woman from the village of Solonytsivka and a 69-year-old man from the Kupiansk district were also injured. They were hospitalized.
In addition, a 54-year-old man and his 16-year-old son from the Izium district were injured earlier, and they also consulted doctors yesterday.
In addition, as a result of Russian shelling in the region, fires broke out in non-residential buildings, at the object of an agro-industrial complex, and in a garage.
Mykolaiv and Region
In the medical facilities of the Mykolaiv region, the number of people injured by Russian shelling increased by 45 people per day. As of this morning, there are 554 citizens in Mykolaiv hospitals who suffered from the attacks of the occupiers on the Mykolaiv region. Another 70 victims were treated on an outpatient basis. This was announced by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, Hanna Zamazeeva.
Tonight, the Russian invaders attacked Mykolaiv, as a result of which two enemy drones exploded, which in turn damaged two containers with sunflower oil at one of the enterprises with a capacity of 7.5 tons each. This was announced by the head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration Vitaliy Kim.
Sumy and Region
At 5:20 a.m., three Russian rockets attacked a civil infrastructure facility in the Romny district of the Sumy region. At least three people died, nine were injured. This was reported by the head of the Sumy regional military administration, Dmytro Zhyvytskyi. There are still people under the rubble. Zhyvytskyi also reported that 1,625 subscribers were disconnected from the electricity supply in Sumy region.
Dnipro and Region
Early in the morning on October 17, the Russian Federation struck an energy infrastructure facility. A big fire started there. After the attack of the Russian Federation on the object of the energy infrastructure in the Dnipro, rolling shutdowns were introduced.
In the afternoon on Monday, October 17, Russian troops again attacked the Kamianske district of the Dniproregion, rockets again hit the energy infrastructure facility. This was announced by the head of the Dnipro regional military administration Valentyn Reznichenko. There was a fire and serious damage to the facility.
