War Chronicles (14-16.10.2022)

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the adversary makes further attempts to hold the temporarily captured territories and deter operations of the Ukrainian Defence Forces on certain axes. Yet, the enemy conducts offensive operations on Bakhmut and Avdiivka axes, and regroup its forces. 

The enemy keeps shelling Ukrainian positions all along the line of contact and conducts aerial reconnaissance. The occupant forces attack civilian infrastructure and residences, thus violating the rules of International Humanitarian Law, and the laws and principles of war. 

During the past days russian air and missile strikes targeted civilian population and infrastructure in more than 30 Ukrainian settlements, including: Nikopol and Shakhtars’ke (Dnipropetrovsk oblast); Hlushkivka (Kharkiv oblast); Orikhiv and Mali Shcherbaki (Zaporizhzhia oblast); Dmytrivka – Kyivska; Bilohirka (Kherson oblast) and Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast).

The enemy continued to shell civilian and military infrastructure in the following areas:

Siverschyna axis: artillery shelling in the areas around Mykolaivka settlement, Chernihiv oblast; and Pokrovka, Sumy oblast. Russian forces keep employing attack drones to; 

Slobozhanschyna axis: tank, mortar, tube and rocket artillery shelling in the vicinities of Strelecha, Ohirtseve, Staritsa, Hatyshche, Pishchane, Kam’yanka, and Dvorichna;

Kramatorsk axis: tank and various caliber artillery fire all along the line of contact, including in the areas around Bilohorivka, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Novoyehorivka, Rozdolivka, and Serebryanka;

Bakhmut and Avdiivka axes: the adversary employed tanks, mortars, tube and rocket artillery all along the contact line.

Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia axes: more than 15 Ukrainian settlements, including Vuhledar, Vremivka, Paraskoviivka, Prechistivka, and Shcherbaki were subject to russian shelling.

Pivdennyi Buh axis: more than 25 settlements along the contact line were affected by the enemy fire.

Violations of International Humanitarian Law, and the laws and principles of war have become a pattern of behavior of russian invaders on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. For instance, russian service members of Chechen nationality recently arrived to the village of Rubizhne (Luhansk oblast) to reinforce occupation forces began evicting local population from their houses in order to accommodate their own officers.

According to the verified information, as a result of precise artillery strikes of Ukrainian Defence Forces the enemy lost an ammunition depot.

20x occupiers were wounded in the village of Marfopil, Zaporizhzhia oblast. In the settlement of Tokmak (Zaporizhzhya oblast) 10x units of military equipment were destroyed and up to 40x servicemen were wounded. Up to 30x occupiers were wounded in the settlement of Polohy (Zaporizhzhya oblast). 7x pieces of military equipment were destroyed and about 40x enemy servicemen were wounded in Kam’yanka-Dniprovs’ka. The exact number casualties that the occupiers are trying to hide carefully is being clarified.

During the past days, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled several enemy attacks in the areas of Tors’ke and Spirne settlements on Kramatorsk direction; Berestove, Soledar and Bakhmut on Bakhmut direction; and Maryinka, Pobieda and Nevels’ke on Avdiivka direction.

Ukrainian Air Force delivered 32x air strikes during the last 24 hours. 24x concentrations of weapons and military equipment, as well as 8x positions of the enemy anti-aircraft missile systems are confirmed hit. In addition, our air defense units shot down 6x UAVs and 1x enemy helicopter on different directions.

Over the past day, Ukrainian missile and artillery troops engaged 3x concentrations of enemy troops, weapons and military equipment, 1x ammunition depot, 7x enemy air defense facilities and other military targets.

As of October 16, 2022, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 423 children have died and more than 810 children have been injured. Due to the active hostilities in affected regions, there is no possibility to inspect the areas of shelling and destruction.

Kyiv and Region

On the morning of October 15, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the Kyiv region. As a result of the attack, the object of the energy infrastructure was seriously damaged. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, emergency power outage schedules may be applied in the region due to the strike.

Donetsk and Luhansk Region

In Lyman, Donetsk region, bodies of six more civilians were found who were killed during the occupation, the head of the regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, said.

He reported that during the day of October 14, Russian troops killed two civilians in Bakhmut. Another six people in the region were injured the day before.

Last day, Russian troops shelled 11 settlements in Donetsk region. 21 attacks were carried out. This is reported by the National Police of the Donetsk region. The occupiers used “Grad” MLRS and artillery. 30 civilian objects were destroyed and damaged, of which 26 were private houses.

Kharkiv and Region

During the past days, Russian troops shelled Kharkiv and settlements in four districts of the region. This was announced by the head of the regional military administration Oleh Synegubov. According to him, as a result of enemy shelling, a private house and unused store building were damaged. In addition, non-residential and commercial buildings were damaged, and fires broke out.

According to the regional Center for Emergency Medical Aid, a 66-year-old civilian was killed as a result of enemy shelling in Kharkiv district. In the Ku-piansk district, a 74-year-old man was hospitalized with an injury. In addition, in the Chuhuiv district, a 65-year-old man was seriously injured when his car ran over an enemy mine.

Zaporizhzhia and Region 

During the past days, the Russian army shelled Zaporizhzhia twice. As a result of the at-tack by 4 kamikaze drones, infrastructure facilities were damaged and fires broke out. In the morning, the Russian occupiers launched 10 S-300 missiles at the city. A number of energy and industrial infrastructure facilities were destroyed. As a result of the attack, 21 apartment buildings, 15 private houses, an educa-tional institution and a parking lot were damaged. According to the report of the regional office of the National Police, the occupiers shelled civilian infrastructure in 19 settlements of Zaporizhzhia region over the past day. 68 reports were received about the destruction of houses (apartments) of citizens and infrastructure objects as a result of shelling by Russian military. 

The Russian invaders are illegally detaining about 4,000 people at a checkpoint in Vasylivka. Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov informs about this. He notes that in 2.5 weeks, Russians allowed only 200 cars out of thousands of those who wanted to leave the territory controlled by Ukraine. People are forced to return to their occupied homes due to fatigue and inhumane conditions of waiting. Kherson and Region The Russian occupiers repeatedly abducted civilians of three districts of the 

Kherson region

This was reported by the National Police in the region. The invaders abducted an unknown number of residents of Chornobayivka, Nova Kakhovka and Skadovsk district. The occupiers in Kherson brutally killed the chief conductor of the city’s music and drama theater, Yury Kerpatenko. As reported by the Ministry of Culture, this became known on October 14. It is noted that the man refused to cooperate with the Russians, after which the occupying forces shot him in his own house. 

Dnipro and Region

During the night of October 15, the Russian occupiers repeatedly shelled the Nikopol district in the Dnipro region. This was reported by the head of the Dnipro regional military administration Valentyn Reznichenko. According to his information, the shelling was carried out from the “Grad” and “Uragan” MLRSs, as well as from tube artillery.

The occupiers fired more than 50 shells at Nikopol: two people were wounded – a 35-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman. Both were hospitalized, their condition is of medium severity. 10 high-rise buildings, 4 private houses, outbuildings, a garage cooperative, two shops, offices, a transport company, cars, offices were mutilated. Communications were damaged: gas pipeline and electricity network. More than 250 families are without electricity. In addition, an industrial enterprise and residential buildings in two communit -es of the district were damaged.

In the morning of October 15, the aggressor again attacked the residential quarters of Nikopol: according to the preliminary information, five residents of the city were injured. Residential buildings and administrative buildings were damaged. More than 500 families remain without electricity.
